Post an assignment — here's exactly how it works

Posting costs nothing, and you don't need an account first. Go to covermyshoot.com/brief (or tap "Post an Assignment" on the homepage) and fill in one form, in five short sections:

  1. About you — your name, your email (this is how we reach you about your brief), and your business or studio name if you have one (optional).
  2. The assignment — who you need (photographer, model, stylist, or videographer), the role (wedding, event, portrait, fashion, commercial, product, real estate, sports, food, and more — each trade has its own list), the kind of event (wedding, corporate event, brand or product shoot, real estate shoot, portrait session, and more), and whether you're booking ahead or posting an urgent coverage request because a professional you booked has cancelled.
  3. Date, time & place — the event date, call time and end time, the town, and the ZIP code if you know it (optional but recommended — it helps match your listing to professionals who have asked to be alerted about work in their area).
  4. Pay & deliverables — the total flat rate you will pay, the pay date (for example, the day of the event), how you'll pay (Venmo, Cash App, check, or cash in person), and what you need delivered.
  5. Coverage requests & extra details — for coverage requests only: what happened, the latest time you need an answer by, and the highest rate you can stretch to (those three are required for coverage requests). For everyone: any extra details — gear, dress code, the specifics of the job.

Before you send it, the form asks you to confirm two things, because they're how this marketplace works: the rate and pay date are real and you pay the professional directly — Cover My Shoot never touches assignment pay; and the assignment is adults-only — it does not involve minors, and no one under 18 will be present. That second rule is absolute here: it means, for example, that a wedding or event with under-18 guests can't be posted on Cover My Shoot. We'd rather tell you that up front than waste your time.

Press Send the brief. Then one honest step people sometimes miss: a real person reviews every brief before it goes live. Once yours is approved, it appears on the Project Opportunities board, where every professional on Cover My Shoot can see it — and professionals who have turned on alerts matching your listing get an email about it too. Your name, email, and venue are never shown on the board. If anything is missing or we have a question, we email you at the address you gave.

Posting doesn't guarantee responses — professionals choose for themselves whether to respond. If you'd like to see the responses, choose your professional, and message them right on the site, create a free account and post from your dashboard instead: everything then happens in your account. If you post without an account, we'll look after your brief by email.

Claim your listing

Posted without an account? You can claim your listing into a free Cover My Shoot account. Go to covermyshoot.com/claim and enter the email address you posted with. We send a one-time code to that email — the same security standard as signing in. Enter the code, and the listing is linked to your account.

From then on, your listing works exactly like one posted with an account from the start: professionals' responses appear in your dashboard, you choose the professional you want, and you message each other in writing inside Cover My Shoot. One listing can be claimed only by its own poster — the code sent to the posting email address is what proves it's yours.

Claiming is free, and so is the account. Claiming does not change the review step: every listing is reviewed by a real person before it appears on the Project Opportunities board, whether it is claimed or not, and claiming never skips that review. Claiming also does not guarantee responses — professionals browse the board and respond to the listings that fit them.
